USDA National Information Technology Center (NITC)
VisualPoint provides NITC with experienced project management and senior level subject matter expertise in the areas of enterprise-class business application support, applications transitions, networking and cyber security.
NITC offers a broad range of Cloud services using virtualized, multi-tenant operating environments to offer several Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services. NITC was created by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to centrally manage Agency IT infrastructure and resources. NITC provides overall cost savings to the USDA and other federal customers through Data Center Consolidation, license consolidation, and virtualization. The Level IV data center facilities utilize state-of-the-art, enterprise class infrastructure technologies to deliver optimal yet cost-effective solutions.
NITC required assistance transitioning customers like the Agency for Rural Development (RD) from legacy environments to the new Enterprise Data Center (EDC) PaaS offering. RD had a complex server environment with numerous interdependencies. Many of their applications were high visibility with no allowance for down time during the transition. The project called for technical planning and integration work as well as technical architecture solution design.
VisualPoint engineers guided RD through all phases of their migration, and provided continued support to ensure application transitions were successfully completed. From technical requirements identification through post migration close out activities, our staff worked to ensure the migration of hundreds of servers was successful.
RD was successfully migrated into the NITC PaaS environment in early 2016. The services provided by our Solution Engineers helped to eliminate project risk and deliver robust technology solutions based on industry-best practices. RD is now in a modern cloud environment, gaining inheritable security controls, fully operating system administration, network management and support, and a tremendous reduction in overall cost of operating a large server environment.
